Oct 2024 – Subgroup meetings

Walking Group – Six walkers had a leisurely stroll around Walton Gardens in rather drizzly conditions but by the time we had checked the rabbits, goats, peacocks etc the sun was shining. The gardens were looking very well groomed and the leaves were beginning to turn to their autumn colours on the trees. We ventured through the garden that people could go to for some tranquility whilst they remembered their loved ones. We passed a small covered stage with wooden benches in the corner and then ventured past the pond where several of our artists had sat earlier on in the summer demonstrating their talent. After a very enjoyable walk we had a lovely meal at The Stag.

Book Club

Book Club had a complete change of reading style this month with a classic novel – Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. The lengthy classic was somewhat of a challenge but many of us persevered, drawn in to the very different and descriptive style of writing.
Five members also spent a most enjoyable afternoon with a visit to a stage production of Jane Eyre at the Garrick theatre in Altrincham. This gave a different talking point for our book club in October. Hopefully, we can do a similar event next year.
We scored the book a very high 7.8 out of 10

Craft Group – Chrismas Card Making

/

Our own Vanessa led a large group of 15 ladies in making Christmas Cards. She showed us the very professional effects that could be obtained with equipment such as a ‘Die cutter’ to cut out complex shapes and an embosser to give a textured paper to card. She also brought along lots of card blanks, ‘push’ out Chrismas shapes, ribbons and other resources for us to use. We all really enjoyed the session, including Annette’s delicious cakes. We each had our individual cards to take away with us. Many thanks to Annette and Vanessa for a most enjoyable afternoon.
